Decorative surface trend samples 2026

Based on buyer enquiry patterns, trade show feedback from Interzum and CIFF 2026, and our own sales data across 40+ countries, here are the ten surface trends shaping furniture design in 2026 — and what they mean for your inventory planning.

1. Super-Matte Everything

The gloss-meter reading that matters: below 5 GU (gloss units). Super-matte surfaces — often called "anti-fingerprint matte" — are now the default finish for mid-to-premium kitchens across Europe and North America. GONGDA's Soft Touch Matt PVC Film achieves this with a nano-textured topcoat that resists fingerprints, micro-scratches and cleaning-product dulling. Key colours: charcoal grey, warm taupe, off-white.

2. Warm Wood Tones Return

After a decade of grey-toned oak and white-washed everything, warm honey, cognac and chestnut browns are back. This aligns with the broader "warm minimalism" interior trend. Best-selling wood grains at GONGDA in H1 2026: American Walnut, Teak Natural, and Golden Oak. Pair these with black matte hardware for the most requested kitchen look of the year.

3. Textured Stone & Travertine

Flat-printed marble no longer sells at the premium level. Buyers want synced embossing — the texture physically matches the printed veining. Travertine cross-cut patterns with pitted-texture embossing are the fastest-growing stone category. They pair beautifully with brushed brass handles and taps.

4. Biophilic Greens

Sage green, eucalyptus, olive and deep forest greens are appearing in kitchen islands, bathroom vanities and office millwork. This is part of the biophilic design movement — bringing nature-inspired colours indoors. Green-toned PVC films now account for 8% of our sample requests, up from 2% in 2024.

5. Large-Format Matching (Film + Edge)

Buyers increasingly expect the decorative PVC film on the panel face and the PVC edge banding to be an exact match — same colour, same texture, same gloss level. GONGDA produces matching film-and-edge sets from the same master batch, eliminating colour drift between panel and edge. This is now a baseline expectation, not a value-add.

6. Metallic Accents Without the Bling

Full metallic surfaces are out; subtle metallic highlights are in. Think: a matte charcoal background with fine champagne-gold veining, or a concrete-look film with tiny copper specks. These are used for statement pieces — feature walls, reception desks, display cabinets — rather than whole-room applications.

7. Antimicrobial & Easy-Clean Surfaces

Post-pandemic, commercial buyers (hotels, hospitals, schools) actively request antimicrobial PVC films with silver-ion or zinc-pyrithione additives. GONGDA's healthcare-grade films pass JIS Z 2801 testing at >99.9% bacterial reduction. Even in residential, "easy-clean" has become a top-3 buying criterion.

8. Slim Shaker Profiles

The classic Shaker door isn't going anywhere, but the trend is toward narrower frames (50–65mm instead of the traditional 75–90mm) and shallower profiles (8–12mm recess). This creates a more contemporary silhouette that still reads as classic. Our PVC membrane foil range is engineered for clean release from narrow-profile tooling.

9. The "Dark Academia" Look

Deep walnut, espresso and near-black timber finishes with a low-sheen lacquer effect are surging — driven by TikTok/Instagram aesthetics and the "quiet luxury" movement. These dark, dramatic surfaces pair with brass, leather and dark stone for a library-or-study-room aesthetic now appearing in residential kitchens.

10. Regional Customisation at Scale

Importers no longer accept "one catalogue fits all." They want region-specific colour palettes: lighter, brighter wood tones for Southeast Asia; darker, richer finishes for the Middle East; cool neutrals for Scandinavia. GONGDA's minimum order quantities (500m² per design for custom colours) make regional customisation affordable even for mid-sized distributors.
