Deep-draw thermoforming for 3D profiles, raised panels and decorative interior surfaces.
PVC membrane foil is uniquely suited to producing three-dimensional door and panel surfaces that would be impossible or prohibitively expensive with flat laminate or veneer. Through vacuum thermoforming, GONGDA membrane foil conforms to routed MDF profiles — including raised panels, shaker-style recesses, crown molding edges and decorative grooves — creating seamless, wrap-around finishes with no visible seams or edge lines.
The process uses a vacuum press to draw heated PVC film (typically 0.35–0.50mm) over a pre-shaped MDF core at 80–120°C. The film stretches and bonds to every contour, producing a durable, waterproof skin that outperforms paint in chip resistance and outlasts veneer in moisture protection.
Our membrane foil achieves draw ratios up to 1:3 without color shift or thinning. This enables wrapping complex 3D profiles with recess depths up to 25mm — suitable for shaker doors, French panel styles and decorative moldings.
Physical embossing rollers are synchronized to the printed grain pattern, creating tactile wood pores, leather textures or woven fabric feels that align perfectly with the visual design. The result is a multi-sensory surface.
Specialized EVA and PU hot-melt adhesive layers on the foil backside bond directly to MDF and particle board without requiring spray primer — reducing production steps, VOC emissions and labor cost per door.
The most common application: MDF door blanks are CNC-routed with decorative profiles, then vacuum-pressed with PVC membrane foil. Popular styles include European slab, shaker, raised panel and cathedral arch. Film thickness 0.35–0.50mm provides sufficient stretch for deep profiles while maintaining surface durability.
Available in wood grain (oak, walnut, cherry, maple), marble (Carrara, black marquina), solid colors (white, gray, navy, sage) and metallic (brushed steel, gold).
Lightweight hollow-core or honeycomb-core interior doors are surfaced with PVC film for weight reduction and cost control. Decorative wall panels for feature walls, TV backdrops and commercial interiors use the same vacuum-pressing process on MDF substrate boards up to 18mm thick.
Panel sizes: standard 1,220 × 2,440mm boards; custom panel dimensions available. Film width: 1,250mm or 1,400mm to minimize seams on large panels.
| Parameter | Recommended Range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Film Thickness | 0.35–0.50mm | 0.50mm for deep profiles (>15mm recess) |
| Heating Temperature | 80–120°C | Higher temp for thicker film or deeper draw |
| Vacuum Pressure | 0.06–0.09 MPa | Hold 30–60 seconds after full draw |
| Substrate | MDF E1 / E0, 12–18mm | Moisture content 6–10% |
| Edge Banding | PVC 0.4–1.0mm | Color-matched post-pressing |
After vacuum pressing, the door perimeter is trimmed and edge-banded with color-matched PVC tape. GONGDA offers 0.4mm thin-roll for high-speed automatic edge banders and 1.0mm standard for semi-automatic lines. Both options include 3D grain-matched embossing to maintain visual continuity from face to edge.
For doors with particularly deep profiles, pre-formed L-shaped edge banding (2–3mm) can be applied to protect the vulnerable profile edge from chipping during transport and installation.
